Robin Grabowski’s glasswork is original in design and is inspired by nature and the sense of fun in the animals she surrounds herself with. Her glass bowls and plates are made by fusing layers of powdered glass in a kiln, then slumping the flat object into a mold in a second firing.

Her windows are different from other stained glass in that a centerpiece or tile is created by fusing many layers of glass in the kiln, then assembling the fused pieces into one. All these pieces are done one at a time and although a theme may be repeated, there are never two the same.

The new sculptures that she is doing involve many layers of glass (up to 15) that are fused in the kiln in a process that takes up to 48 hours for each firing. These pieces come closest to her paintings that are abstract and built upon in many layers also. 
 
The tables are a collaboration with a metal sculptor, Michael Hibner, who constantly comes up with new ideas to fit the glass Robin designs. These are 1” thick fused layers of glass with color and foils imbedded in the artwork. Each piece takes a minimum of 48 hours to fire in the kiln and can have 2 or 3 firings.

 The paintings are the inspiration for her sculptures, tableware and tables. She paints in many layers using acrylics, pastels, charcoal and whatever shiny happens to find its way onto the canvas or paper. 

Robin has been working in the glass medium since 1971 and continues to find new and different ways to see her art. She lives on 400 acres above Lyons, Colorado in the foothills with her horses, cats and dogs that are a constant inspiration.
